N5XU — ALMOST – back on the air

As I am typing this update to the N5XU website, I am sitting outside the new shack on the 10th floor of ETC, while contractors are completing the cable string task started early this morning (Halloween, Oct 31).

The tower has been moved, installed, and the antennas have been hung on the roof of ETC. Derek and I cut the cables last weekend, and today they have been installed in raceways and conduit up to the roof. The guys are just now putting hooks on the wall to keep cables out of the way.

Next step is soldering more PL259’s and connecting the rotor, and then N5XU should be BACK ON THE AIR.

After initial tests, we’ll install the antenna switches and the VHF side of the station.

I’ll provide some more info when things are working !!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN from n5xu !!!!

N5XU UT Amateur Radio Club; October General Meeting; Wednesday, October 15, 2014; 7PM; ETC 2.114

Greeting N5XU,

The October meeting of the UT Amateur Radio Club will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 7PM in ETC 2.114. The meeting should be over by 8pm unless we want to do a shack on the 10th floor after the meeting.

As usual, all those interested in Amateur Radio are welcome to attend, and we will provide some background to this fascinating hobby and the activities of the UT Club.

We should have more information on the construction plans for the new station and may have some work assignments for our preparation.

Also, the club website has finally been re-established on UT servers and can be reached at our original URL:

https://sites.utexas.edu/n5xu.

The good news is that the 6 months of haggling to get a reasonable web system in place has been successfully concluded (today). The opportunity is that now we need to make this site useful for members – current, prospective, and former.

I look forward to seeing a good turnout at next Wednesday’s meeting.
