The University of Texas Amateur Radio Club has a long history of activity on the HF bands, on which the club has been active since its earliest days. Our present HF equipment allows us to work all of the Amateur Radio bands from 160M to 10M, including the WARC bands. Our transceiver is a Kenwood TS-850SAT with Kenwood ATS-230 antenna tuner and antenna switch, and a Kenwood external speaker. We also have a Heathkit SB-220 high-power linear amplifier, which provides around 1000 watts out on 80M, 40M, 20M, 15M, and 10M. For RTTY, AMTOR, PACTOR, and CW operations, the club uses an AEA PK-900 multimode data controller. For antennas, the club features a Force 12 C-4 on our main tower. This antenna can also be used with the antenna tuner on the 17M and 12M WARC bands, with effective gain equivalent to a dipole. We also have an inverted-V for 30M, wire dipoles for 40M and 80M, and a long wire for use on 160M with the antenna tuner.

HF Contesting
UTARC is competitive in the Collegiate Championship, and active in many other HF contests and QSO Parties. Our on-campus club station is well-equipped for both CW and phone contests, single-operator and multi-operator.
HF DXing
The UTARC club station is a great place to work DX! The club has earned several operating awards, including DXCC, WAZ, WAS, WAJD, and 5BWAC. Several members frequently chase rare DX on both CW and phone.
