UTARC's mission is to support the continuing development of Amateur Radio activity at the University of Texas at Austin.
It is easy to underestimate the many ways in which UTARC can help Amateur Radio activity flourish, and support the development of Amateur Radio operators at the University. Simply holding regular meetings, where members can come together and discuss their activities and interests in radio is an important part of the life of the club. UTARC meetings usually offer a program and topic of discussion, often introducing members to new and different aspects of Amateur Radio.
Another very important means of supporting Amateur Radio at the University of Texas is maintaining a club station on campus, available for all members to use. The UTARC club station is designed to expose club members to as many different bands and modes of operation as possible, and to make trying something new both practical and convenient. A special emphasis has been placed upon equipment for operating on bands and modes that the majority of our members either cannot afford or cannot easily accomodate in dormitories and apartments.
The club sponsors social operating events and other group activities related to Amateur Radio. UTARC participates in several Amateur Radio contests throughout the year, using the club station. These are wonderful opportunities for members to learn about the radio craft. The club also sponsors occasional field trips, trips to hamfests, booths at campus events, and other activities.
UTARC supports membership interests, but also strives to lead Amateur Radio operators at the University into exploring new facets of Amateur Radio. UTARC is active and evangelical about the Amateur Radio Service.
