UTARC has set up a table or tables on the West Mall numerous times with anywhere from extremely poor to very great success in recruiting new members and raising awareness of Amateur Radio activity on campus. Public demonstrations can be one of the most effective means the club has to attract new members. While UTARC cannot possibly show off all of its equipment, a typical demo might include an HF radio, packet radio, or possibly ATV or some other crowd-pleasing demonstration. Members can help make such a demonstration a tremendous success both with organization and logistics and by sitting at the table during the demonstration hours and answering questions. The purpose of the demo is to recruit potential new members, by getting them to leave their names and contact information, but it is also a great opportunity to show off our avocation and evangelize about Amateur Radio to others. All members are encouraged to participate, even if they can only show up for a small period of time.
