Parties, Picnics, and Field Trips

While UTARC does not have an annual social calendar, the club has held gatherings of a more social nature than the regular monthly meetings. In the late 1980's, Holiday and End-of-School-Year parties were held at the house of Curt Black WR5J. A party or dinner during homecoming, intended to involve alumni of the club visiting the University, has been suggested in the past. Picnics have also been tried with great success. At one such outing, a transmitter hunt was conducted after eating. Past field trips have also been very successful. The club has toured a local FM broadcast station, the microwave relay site atop the Dobie Center, and the Tokamak particle accelerator underneath RLM. Many similar sites are happy to make some effort for a tour. Members are encouraged to express any ideas for a club social activity.
