We had two Junior ops for Kid's Day at the shack - Amber and Camille, both aged 8. Johanna and Louisa came to help out, but with various parents and others there was nothing much to do. The girls did fine on the air. I think they got a kick out of hearing their names coming back to them out of the speaker, and Amber got quite chatty with some of the other kids. We found ``victims'' on 10, 15 and 20 meters, all from the U.S. except for one Canadian.
Camille had to leave for a birthday party, and Amber eventually got a bit tired and hungry, so we went to Chango's to refuel. When we got back on the air, we were accompanied by Kevin KT5I, and his wife, Amy. Amber was finally peeled away from the radio by her mom, after talking to about 20 other kids. We spoke with one 7 yr old, but the others were older than our operators (in the 9-16 year old range), and we had some older kids in their 50s and 60s call in as well.
I don't think Amber or Camille are likely to get licenses any time soon, but at least they'll have some positive feelings toward Amateur Radio (I think.) I'll get them the participation certificates - I've seen those and they are pretty cool.
Thanks to Louisa, Johanna, and Kevin for stopping by. The next one of these things should be the first week in June.
