Members on the Move

Current UTARC members Johanna Preston W5JLP and Louisa Preston KB5LBN are spending Spring Break with their father Gene Preston K5GP and others in Honduras on a mission trip. They intend to keep in touch with friends and family members in the Austin area using pactor on HF with an Internet email gateway. The April UTARC meeting will feature K5GP explaining the pactor-to-email setup.

Former UTARC president George Fremin III K5TR has recently returned from the Galapagos Islands, where he operated in the ARRL International DX Contest, phone. George used the station and callsign HC8N of UTARC alumnus Trey Garlough, who was also in the Galapagos at the time. George made 7,726 contacts in 48 hours. He made 3,986 of those contacts on 10 meters alone! George was also able to contact 49 states and provinces on 160 meter phone!

Current UTARC Vice President Monique Stinson N3TNN will be graduating this semester. She has, however, recently been accepted into the Civil Engineering Master's Program, and has indicated that she will stay at U.T. to get her next degree! Congratualations, Monique!
