The weekend of March 30-31 is the CQ WPX Contest, Phone. In this contest, you can work everyone, and the multipliers are callsign prefixes (i.e. the N5 of N5XU, the HC8 of HC8N, the 9V1 of 9V1YC, etc.) It can be a lot of fun. The CW weekend, however, is not until May 26-27.
Saturday, March 31 is a small hamfest in Brenham, TX, sponsored by the Brenham Amateur Radio Club. Brenham is a one and a half to two hours drive east of Austin, on US290. The swapfest starts at 8AM in the Washington County Fairgrounds.
Saturday, April 21 is the Belton Ham Expo, one of the largest hamfests in the state. It is being held in the Belton County Exposition Center, and starts at 8AM. Belton is an hour drive north of Austin on IH35.
