de KM5FA es KA5WSS
On the evening of May 16, 1998, using the N5XU callsign, Ken KM5FA worked W4AMJ in EL86 on the gulf coast of southern Florida on 144MHz SSB. This was via tropospheric ducting, and was the first known trans-gulf 144MHz tropo QSO made at the club station. This is a new grid and state for N5XU's 144MHz VUCC effort, of course. The QSO lasted about five minutes, and W4AMJ was audible for about half an hour afterward working stations in the Houston area.
Operating the ARRL June VHF QSO Party as N5XU this summer, Robert KA5WSS also worked a trans-gulf tropo-ducting QSO on 144MHz. Robert worked Oscar, CO0FRC, in EL83, Havana, Cuba! This is a new grid and DXCC entity for N5XU on 144MHz!
