The University of Texas Amateur Radio Club will be operating a special event station celebrating 80 years of Amateur Radio at the University of Texas. The station will be on the air from Saturday, 29 September 2001 through Sunday, 7 October 2001. The club will be signing a special callsign K5T, and will be available on all bands from 160 meters through 23 centimeters (except 33cm.)
Be sure to work K5T during the Texas QSO Party. The club will be entering the Multi-Operator, Single Transmitter (M/S) category, aiming to both get as many student operators involved as possible, as well as aiming to win the contest! The contest is 9AM to 9PM Texas local time on Saturday, 29 September, 2001.
The weekend of August 3-4 is Austin Summerfest. Summerfest is the largest annual hamfest and Amateur Radio convention in city of Austin, and this year is also the official ARRL South Texas Section Convention. Events include forums on DXing, QRP, Emergency Communications, Weather, Packet, AMSAT, and Microwaves. There will also licensing exams and, of course, the indoor swapfest. This year Summerfest is at the Sheraton Four Points, 7800 North IH-35.
