Taylor Hall (TAY) is across the street, to the south, of the
University of Texas
Amateur Radio Club station
N5XU. The original annex to the building is being demolished and
replaced with a new, much larger building intended for use by the
research organizations of the
Department of the Computer Sciences,
the Texas Institute for Computational
and Applied Mathematics, and the
Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering.
These photos were all taken at N5XU. The first photos were taken in November,
1998, and the demolition photos begin in January, 1999. Click on
these thumbnails to see the full-size images.

The steam stack was stripped and in this picture is painted with yellow
primer. The construction fencing is where new pipelines were buried.
Yes, that's right - they buried brand new pipelines less than two months
before they were ripped up out of the ground again!
|
 |
The Taylor Hall annex as it looked less than a month before demolition.
A part of the original Taylor Hall is at the left with the terracotta
roofline. The saw-tooth roofline is not evident from inside because of an
interior drop-panel ceiling.
|
 |
Another shot of the ugly, ugly yellow. The color of the railing around
the stack about two-thirds of the way up was the original color. |
 |
The large portion of the Taylor Hall annex is demolished and mostly
cleared out. The saw-tooth shape of the former roofline is still
evident. |
 |
A similar view, with a little less rubble. The dome in the distance is
the Texas state capitol. |
 |
In this view you can see the plywood wall that separates the construction
area from Speedway. |
 |
Another portion of the building is destroyed. Notice how cleanly the
separation between the annex and the old building was done. |
 |
The rest of the building is reduced to rubble. There is a lot of
pine mulch spread underneath the trees and along the fence. |
 |
The same view panned a little to the left. Notice the black plastic
now in place to protect the exposed end of what is left of Taylor Hall. |
 |
The digging for the new basement has begun. There is still a lot of
rubble.
