UTARC 2000 Views From the Top

These are some photos taken of the view from near the top of the tower at the club station N5XU. These were taken from a height about three feet or so below the Force 12 C-4 tribander, the lowest directional antenna on the mast.

This is the view to the NNW. You can see the J. T. Patterson Laboratories Building (PAT) in the foreground, and Robert Lee Moore Hall (RLM) just beyond. Both of these buildings are much taller than our antennas. PAT is used by life sciences departments.
This is the view to the due west. You can barely see the first row of hills beyond Lake Austin in the distance. The large building to the right with the white satellite dish is the Jesse H. Jones Communication Center (CMA). The large white building to the left is a private dormitory.
This is the view to the ESE. The large brick tower in the middle of the frame is a part of Hal C. Weaver Power Plant (PPL) just across the street from N5XU. The football stadium in the background is the Darryl K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium (STD).
This is a view across campus to the SSW. The Texas Capitol building is visible on the left side of the frame. On the right side, the large blue building is the Dobie Center, a combination mall and private dormitory. The building directly in front is the new ACES Building, an extension to Taylor Hall, still under construction, but almost done.
This is the view to the SW. You can still see the Dobie Center on the left, but the building that dominates this direction is the famous Main Building (MAI), also known as the UT Tower. A hill several hundred feet high (on which the tower is built) reduces our horizon significantly.
This is the view to almost due south. The smoke stack in front belongs to the Hal C. Weaver Power Plant Extension (PPE), right across the street from N5XU. In the distance, you can see the very large plain brick Beauford H. Jester Center (JES), the largest student dormitory in the free world.
This is another view to the SE. The large circular building in the distance is the Frank C. Erwin, Jr. Special Events Center (ERC), used for basketball, concerts, the circus, ice skating shows, and more. We have a reasonably good horizon in this direction.
This is a close-up look at the ACES Building, an extension to Taylor Hall. It is right across the street from N5XU, and there was concern that the new building would have a roofline higher than the club's antennas. Clearly, this is not the case, although the height difference is not very significant.
