UTARC Miscellaneous Photos
The following photos were taken by UTARC alumnus George (K5TR) a few years
back. To see some more of his photos take a look at his
home page.
- Photo 1: Picture of the shack and UT Tower in the background. This
is the photo upon which our last QSL card was based.
- Photo 2: Tony N5OWG and Robert KA5WSS at a UTARC picnic in the early
1990's.
- Photo 3: Another shot of the group at the UTARC picnic. We're not
certain about the identities of the people in the photo. Can you help
identify them?
-
Photo 4: George K5TR was one of the early proponents of the VHF rover
contest category. Here's a picture of his radio equipped car ready to go.
- Photo 5: Here's what the inside of George's car looked like.
-
Photo 6: George's previous callsign was WB5VZL. Here's an earlier
photo of him.
- Photo 7: George has operated from many great stations including
6D2X in Mexico. Here he is at the mic.
-
Photo 8: UTARC alumnus Trey N5KO was also one of the operators
at 6D2X.
- Photo 9: There's a lot of work that must be done at a big station,
including tower work. Here's a shot of K5TR's shoes, 200 feet off of the
ground at N5AU.
- Photo 10: And here's another shot from above. The tower George
is on was at N5AU outside of Dallas.
- Photo 11: Can't get enough of the altitude shots?
- Photo 12: The station at N5AU is inactive these days, but one of the
ops when it was still operational was UTARC alumnus Pete N5TR.
- Photo 13: Another shot of Pete calling CQ on the low end of 20M.
- Photo 14: Yet another UTARC alumnus was also one of the early ops at
N5AU. This time it's Randy K5ZD.
- Photo 15: Randy tries to dig a signal out of the noise and QRM.
- Photo 16: Pete using a homebrew boom microphone contraption.
The following photos are of UTARC events and/or UTARC members.

UTARC alumnus Trey Garlough visited Central Texas in 1996 and took some
time visiting a few stations with UTARC alumnus George (K5TR). Here are some
photos of that visit.
- Photo 1: George K5TR
and Dave W5UN inspect the base of W5UN's famous 2M moonbounce array.
- Photo 2: K5TR and W5UN
with a better view of the antenna.
- Photo 3: Dave W5UN and
Trey N5KO in W5UN's shack.
- Photo 4: W5UN and N5KO
in front of the antenna (which still does not quite fit into the frame).
- Photo 5: N5KO at the
controls of W5KFT near Llano, a station that George K5TR helped design and
build.
- Photo 6: N5KO operating
at W5KFT.
Long-time UTARC supporter Trevor Smith AB5EU added a Force-12 C-4
multi-monoband HF yagi antenna for 14 MHz, 21 MHz, and 28 MHz, which also has
a rotatable dipole for 7 MHz in December, 1999. UTARC member George K5TR
did the tower work.
